Do Not Stay Silent in This Unjust Fight

Writer's picture: Kerry CaversKerry Cavers

A 2025 Mother's take on the Dylan Thomas poem, "Do not go gentle into that good night"

Three women sitting together on a couch laughing and enjoying each other's company.

Mothers, rise fierce in the face of the storm,

Hold fast, stand strong, your hearts ablaze with light;

Fight, fight against the weight of what’s the norm.

Though they may say that silence keeps us warm,

That change is slow and justice has no might,

Do not stay silent in this unjust fight.

Good hearts, who dream of futures bold and bright,

Who carve new paths where children may take flight,

Fight, fight against the weight of what’s the norm.

Fierce souls who teach, who love, who will reform,

Who’ve seen the cost of caging wings in fright,

Do not stay silent in this unjust fight.

Mothers who march, who shield through every storm,

Who hold up hope, whose purpose burns aflame blue-white,

Fight, fight against the weight of what’s the norm.

And you, my child, the reason I transform,

Know this: my love will set the world aright.

Do not stay silent in this unjust fight.

Fight, fight against the weight of what’s the norm.

“It’s about leaving something better for our kids. That’s how we’ve always moved this country forward, by all of us coming together on behalf of our children, because they know it takes a village.” - Michelle Obama
